1972. Granada Television. Unknown child actor Samantha Falcon played the titular Jess. Eternally in search of her lost Jack Russell "Porgy", surreal Alice-esque encounters occurred with strange, east-european influenced puppet animals. It ran for four series, a record for a show with a Hazlewood theme. No tapes exist of the TV show, however as they were destroyed in a mysterious fire in the garden of Oliver Postgate. The melancholy theme tune was a minor hit in 1973 when extended, with lyrics, under the original title "Winter Trees" for folk group Dawn Chorus.
