GO WITH GROOM (1982)
In a break from Blue Peter duties, the famously outdoors-loving Groom spent a week walking the Ridgeway National Trail in Wiltshire, with his canine TV cohort Goldie trotting faithfully beside him. Groom’s increasingly spiritual journey culminated in a notorious incident at Avebury Stone Circle in which the naked, wode-covered host swore allegiance to the Swindon branch of the Ancient Order of Druids. Sarah Greene was reported to be ‘concerned’. Goldie was unavailable for comment. A musical note of interest: Simon Groom had it written into his contract that he play guitar on the theme tune. You can even hear him crack out an inadvertently decent solo in the fade.
