about

An idyllic, small English village where it always seemed to a mid-summer's afternoon was the setting for this, otherwise, indescribable piece of British television from 1978. It seems to have been influenced by European folk tales and other syndicated shows such as "Heidi" but, other than Johnny Hazlewood's evocative and slightly melancholy theme tune the show had little potential with neither memorable characters, plot or dialogue. This was compounded by the fact that the young stars were, in fact, Swedish. Their stilted efforts to act as young, middle class English children is now charming to watch, if a little disturbing. Attempts to dub the show into several other languages, including Japanese were actually more successful than the original. Two of the young performers went on to form the successful Swedish pop group the Cardigans (Nina Persson and Magnus Sveningsson).
