‎'The Back Passage'... a magical children's BBC adaptation from 1977, in which Victorian orphan Florence Whitstable discovers a mysterious corridor in her stern Aunt Cornelia's house, leading to a secret garden filled with talking badgers. Based on the classic 1875 novel by Mercy Flange. Starring Bonnie Langford as Florence, Maggie Smith as Aunt Cornelia and Sir Michael Hordern as King Badger.
The rest of the badgers were played by dancers from the Royal Ballet, in tights, tails and ears. 'Greetings Miss Florence, we are the forest people...' (in squeaky, sing-song voices, rubbing whiskers with silk-gloved hands)
