THE BATTLES OF HASTINGS (ITV, 1979)

This short-lived Southern TV series starred Ray Brooks as John Battles, a crumpled former Scotland Yard detective, demoted by corrupt senior officers and now an Inspector on the south coast. Famous for his 1950s Cadillac and love of Country and Western music, he earns a reputation solving crimes by relating them to the lyrics of his favourite songs. His ex-wife Pam (Liza Goddard) is still on the scene, as is her criminal-minded brother Bartam (Brian Blessed).
Vocal by Preston based singer Dwaylon Hemmings, with whom Johnny Hazlewood made a full album "The Best That I Can Do".
