TOMICA (1971)
Produced by RTV Ljubljana, of the former Yugoslavia, 72 episodes of this rural children’s drama were shown as part of BBC1’s morning schedules throughout school summer holidays in the 1970s. Tomica was a young Romany gypsy girl travelling around the tiny villages of the Balkan Mountain Range in a traditional caravan, accompanied only by her father, Helmuth, their horse, Slavoljub, and their pet pig, Zdenko. Now remembered largely for its unconvincing dubbed dialogue and the classic theme tune ‘Pretty Trotters’.
